ESG Internship – National Board of Directors

Position Overview

Eta Sigma Gamma is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic students to serve with the ESG Board of Directors. This internship is ideal for students seeking to gain experience, knowledge, and practical skills while working with a national organization.

Responsibilities

Internship responsibilities will vary depending on the length of the internship, the professional goals of individual interns, and the availability of projects and endeavors. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in meetings of the ESG Board of Directors
  • Weekly check-ins with ESG Vice President
  • Analyzing results from the Annual Chapter Reports
  • Developing and implementing chapter tools, resources, and professional development activities
  • Assisting with the development of the monthly ESG Newsletter
  • Chapter outreach
  • Social media engagement
  • Website development
  • Award selection
  • Clerical duties

Required Qualifications

  • A current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full time
  • A current ESG member in good standing
  • Maintained membership in a local ESG chapter for at least one academic year
  • Completion and timely submission of application materials

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as an ESG Chapter Officer or Committee Chairperson
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and show initiative
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, basic design tools, and Microsoft Office®
  • Previous coursework pertaining to the Eight Areas of Responsibility of a Certified Health Education Specialist®

Supervisor

While students will work with various members of the Board of Directors, student interns will report directly to the ESG Vice President

Location

  • Remote work
  • Possible in-person participation in National ESG Meeting during the annual SOPHE conference

Availability

Internship opportunities are available for Fall, Spring, and Summer

Internship Duration and Time Commitment

The duration of each internship is negotiable and will be arranged with the ESG Vice President prior the start of the internship. The number of hours per week will also be arranged with the ESG Vice President.

Due Dates

All application materials must be completed and submitted by the following dates:

  • Fall internship – May 15
  • Spring internship – October 15
  • Summer internship – March 15

Performance Tasks

Along with performing their assigned duties, students will complete the following performance tasks to fulfill the internship requirements successfully:

  • A mid-point self-reflection/evaluation
  • A mid-point performance review with the ESG Vice President
  • A final self-reflection/evaluation
  • A final performance review with the ESG Vice President

* The ESG Vice President will complete an evaluation/performance-review (mid-point and final) to be shared during performance review-meetings

Compensation

  • Financial compensation may be provided, pending availability of funds
  • Compensation may be based on duration of internship and internship responsibilities
  • Possible compensation, pending successful completion of an internship, may include a stipend to attend the National SOPHE conference and National ESG Meeting and/or reimbursement for taking the CHES® or MCHES® exams.
  • Upon successful completion of the internship, all students will receive a letter of recommendation/support from the ESG Vice President

Internship for University Credit

Many programs require the completion of an internship or offer the option to complete an internship for credit. This often involves establishing a contract or Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the university and an internship site. Students should identify their desire to complete the internship for university credit on the internship application. The Board of Directors will work directly with your university to establish the necessary contract/MOA.

* All universities differ in their requirements for internship sites (established in the contract/MOA). In the event ESG cannot agree to the terms and conditions outlined in a contract/MOA, the internship may not be taken for credit.
