CALL FOR STUDENT PAPERS – Due Date May 31, 2018

On behalf of the National Executive Committee of Eta Sigma Gamma, I invite students to submit research papers for publication consideration in the upcoming issue of the student issue of The Health Education Monograph Series!

The student issue is usually published in the summer, with manuscript due dates in January of each year. The timing was appropriate when ESG’s annual meeting was in the fall. With ESG’s national meeting moved to the spring of each year, the January due date for manuscripts gave reviewers and the editors little time to prepare for selecting the Best Student Paper honoree in time to be recognized at the annual meeting. For this and other reasons, we decided to adjust the due dates and publication dates. The Student Issue will now be published in late Fall; Submissions due by May 31st of each year.

Why submit a paper?
One of the privileges commensurate with being a member of ESG is the opportunity to submit your paper for publication consideration. The blinded-peer review process is a rigorous one, and health education professionals with peer-reviewed publications stand heads and shoulders above others! Eta Sigma Gamma provides this opportunity for our members, and it is restricted only to those who meet the ideals and standards required to be a member of this prestigious honorary!

Who can submit?
Manuscripts submissions are welcome from students who are members of Eta Sigma Gamma, or will be a member of a chapter by the end of the academic year (2017/2018). Your faculty advisors must confirm your membership standing and/or eligibility as part of the submission process.

What can I submit?
We will accept for consideration, manuscripts of a wide range of topics, providing they are related to the mission and goals of our organization. Regular sections include:

  • Research Manuscripts/Comprehensive or Scoping Literature Reviews
  • Pedagogically Speaking: This section is focused on teaching ideas, strategies, etc.
  • What the Stat Do We Know?: Features papers devoted to explaining statistical methods or other data analytical approaches as they relate to health education.
  • Utor Emptor: Latin for “Buyer Enjoy” as a counter to caveat emptor or “buyer beware.” This section focuses on reviews of health education-relevant books.

Students should consider revising and submitting appropriate papers they have written during their professional preparation and training. It is likely that you have already prepared – or are currently preparing – a paper for a class that would be appropriate for submission. Only original manuscripts not been accepted or published previously will be considered. See our submission guidelines for details, and check with your faculty advisor for advice.

When do I submit & When will it be published?
New deadline is May 31, 2018 for priority consideration, for publication in the Fall 2018 issue. The recipient of the Mohammad R. Torabi Best Student Paper Award will be selected from these submissions.
