22 Mar Sheila M. Patterson, PhD
Dr. Sheila M. Patterson assumed the role of Editor for The Health Educator in June 2012. She was introduced to Eta Sigma Gamma while an undergraduate at Mankato State University (MN). She received a MS and a PhD in Health Education from Southern Illinois University where she was an active member of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of ESG. She currently serves as Department Chairperson and MPH Coordinator for the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance at Cleveland State University. At CSU, Dr. Patterson is also the Faculty Athletics Representative and serves on Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects. In addition to her academic positions, Dr. Patterson also is a former Board Chair of the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) and served on many national committees. She has published her research in a variety of health education-related journals, conducted numerous presentations at the national/state levels and currently is a reviewer for four professional journals. Her teaching interests include health behavior, measurement & evaluation and worksite health promotion. Current research areas of interest include ethical issues in health behavior, food politics and exergaming and its’ impact on physical activity. Dr. Patterson’s hobbies include travel, reading and constantly updating her bucket list.
