Outstanding Chapter Sponsor of the Year Award

Each year, chapters have the opportunity to nominate their chapter sponsor as the Outstanding Chapter Sponsor of the Year. Criteria are based on length of service as chapter sponsor, evidence of exceptional leadership for the local chapter, and mentoring of students. Applications are reviewed by the Awards Committee, which names a deserving recipient. An appropriate symbol of this award will be given to the recipient.

CRITERIA

  • The sponsor must be a member in good standing of Eta Sigma Gamma.
  • Must have served in an advisory capacity for Eta Sigma Gamma for a minimum of four years.
  • The award will be made without regard to race, sex, religion, color, national origin, physical or mental handicap, or age.
  • Chapter sponsors may receive this award only one time every 10 years.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Chapter officers (i.e. chapter presidents), chapter members, chapter alumni, department chairs, and/or university faculty can nominate for this award. The nominator must complete the Nomination for Outstanding Chapter Sponsor of the Year Award Form.

The nomination form for the chapter sponsor that documents and highlights the criteria for the nominee and two letters of support must be submitted on or before the deadline, October 15.

Along with the nomination form, nominators must include the following as support:

  • A nomination letter indicating the sponsors qualifications for the Outstanding Sponsor of the Year Award.
  • A minimum of two letters supporting the nomination for Outstanding Sponsor of the Year.
  • A clearly presented overview of how the sponsor exhibits evidence of exceptional leadership for the local chapter and mentoring of students.

SELECTION PROCESS

Award recipients will be chosen by the Awards Committee. The committee will ensure that the recipient meets all the criteria and will consider the following:

  • Evidence of mentoring students
    • The following are examples in which evidence of sponsor mentoring may be demonstrated:
      • commitment to service by mentoring students in the following:
        • chapter development, implementation, and evaluation of activities
        • chapter governance
        • chapter finances
    • engagement in chapter professional development such as:
      • formal or informal leadership training
      • promotion of student engagement in professional tasks (e.g., writing, presenting, attending conferences)
      • starting a chapter at a college/university
  • The following are examples in which evidence of the quality of sponsor mentoring may be demonstrated:
    • Sponsor involvement in administrative duties requested by the national office:
      • regular submission of annual reports
      • regular submission of financial statements
      • regular submission of “Active Members Form”
    • Sponsor encouragement of chapter members to engage in the following professional activities:
      • regular submission of and/or recipient of award and grant proposals
      • regular submission of and/or recipient of poster presentations
      • regular submission of and/or recipient of articles for ESG or other health education publications
      • regular attendance at regional and national ESG meetings

Those nominating chapter sponsors also are encouraged to provide evidence of leadership or mentoring activities not listed above.

NOTIFICATIONS

Notice of recipient will be made via email to the winner and announced at the annual national meeting of Eta Sigma Gamma.
